Dear Elkhorn School parents, It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as principal of Elkhorn School and part of North Monterey County Unified School District. I began my career in education in North Monterey County Unified School District 20 years ago where I started as a 1st grade bilingual teacher at Prunedale Elementary School. I have been at Elkhorn School for 13 years, 3 as assistant principal and 10 as principal.

Our enrollment continues to climb by more than six percent each year, and we continue to add facilities to accommodate our growing student population. The District offers the cultural, educational and retail advantage of the city, while still maintaining the qualities of a smaller community. We pride ourselves on the achievement of our students and the dedication of our staff. We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragedy that occurred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. As educators and as parents, it is difficult to comprehend such catastrophic events.
We build strong relationships with families and students to make West Side a great place to grow and learn. Elkhorn Village offers many athletic, scholastic and social programs, including a free after-school program. Please answer our personalized phone call to help us understand your family's needs so we can finalize our plan for reopening schools mid-August. We encourage all families to get their child’s booster shot as soon as possible and then bring in the updated immunization record to your school site this school year. All students entering the 7thgrade must provide proof of a Tdap booster shot before starting school. At Elkhorn Public Schools we strive to comply with web accessibility standards.

During the 20 years I have also been a mentor for our beginning teachers and a bilingual literacy coach for the district. I can honestly say that we have the best kids, families, staff and community that really support students and their success in learning and becoming responsible adults. The Educator Effectiveness Fund 2021 Block Grant Program was established by Assembly Bill 130, Chapter 44, Section 22, Statutes of 2021. The law specified that Educator Effectiveness Block Grant may be used to support professional learning for certificated teachers, administrators, paraprofessional educators, and certificated staff. We are excited to welcome our Elkhorn families to a new school year! We have made some changes to our bell schedule, lunch times. Please see information about DROP OFF and PICK UP procedures. We believe that all students can learn at high levels, and we work as a team to ensure that all of our students are successful.
